Route One Accident

September 14th, 2005 by Barry Freed · 2 Comments

Last night I think I might have seen the most horrific thing in my life.

I was driving to Target to pick up a couple of things, and I was in the right hand lane of Rt 1 North in Saugus. As I am driving, I saw a bunch of people, maybe 6 or 7 waving their hands. I had no idea what they were signaling, so I thought they might have needed help of some kind.

I pulled into a parking lot and literally ran over. The first thing I saw was an elderly woman laying face down in a pool of blood on the shoulder of the road. It just didn’t register in my mind. So I looked up and saw a man with a black coat that said “Saugus Emergency Services” (or something to that effect).

He made eye contact with me and said “Get the fuck out of here!!!”

I just said “I saw you guys waving your hands and thought someone needed help. Guess you’re all set then.” and I ran back to the car.

It wasn’t on the news last night or this morning.

Was this right next to Kowloon? We were at the border cafe at about 9pm and when we left we had to do the south to reverse direction to north thing. There were people walking all over the street, and five cop cars, and two ambulances, and seriously — people wandering IN THE ROAD as folks are driving north. Non-emergency people just milling about talking.

    I wonder what happened.

    Yes, directly next to Kowloon.
