I have to admit that I was a little bit disappointed when Opie and Anthony announced that Ron and Fez were getting the “golden ticket” and joining XM 202.
I’d never heard their show before, and I really liked that O&A had a replay right after their morning show. This gave me a chance to do two things: 1) I could listen to Howard Stern in the morning and then switch over when his show ended and 2) I was able to listen from 11 until I leave work at 3pm. It was a perfect setup.
So hearing that Ron and Fez were going to do a show right after Opie and Anthony wasn’t good news to me. But then I started listening, and I really am starting to enjoy their show.
It’s a lot different from O&A, obviously, and I like that. And I also like that they throw in a little bit of sports here and there. Another good thing is that they don’t rely so heavily on inside jokes, you can prety much start listening and understanding their stories and references right away.
With O&A there are so many inside jokes that it’s hard for a new listener to pick everything up. There’s monster rain, Ramon, Steve the bear, his hybrid car, etc. There’s nothing bad about that….it’s just harder to pick up on.
I’m at the point where I don’t listen to Stern at all in the mornings (except on the way to the T Station), and I just listen to XM 202 all day. And I’m enjoying it all day.
So welcome, Ron & Fez.
