Driving in this morning, I saw a truck with the following sign on the back:

I love this. Imagine someone walking around with a shotgun, just shooting at random. But since he’s wearing a T-Shirt that says “Not Responsible For Gunshot Wounds”, he can’t be held liable for anything. Absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah, nice comparison. I was actually just about to make some sort of analogy along those lines. What, people think putting up a sign that they’re not responsible for something makes it so? I mean, it’s one thing if it’s, say, a parking lot underneath a lot of falling rocks, and you can choose not to park there. But, uh, it’s the damn road, which last I checked, you aren’t using at your own risk. Um, durr.

Slightly off topic…do you know what those signs saying “DO NOT PUSH” are for? I sort of assume that it’s something to do with loading and unloading those trucks. But I also always have this urge to walk up to one and just push on it.
Yeah, I’m awesome.

I think it’s because the back of the trucks open from the top down (you know, just like all trucks, really). And if you pushed it, the back of the truck could open and crush you. which is another awesome thing….yeah, so if we crush you or break your windshield, you can’t sue us. Sorry. Stay back 100 feet, got it?

that sign does not release them from being liable. If something falls off of or out of your vehicle, and causes injury or property damage to another, you are responsible. i work for a farmers subrogation office and get many files with damage (mainly significant damage)coming from trucks with those signs. we still pursue and are often successful. a lot of trucks don’t even have a cover. fyi- say you were in the lane next to them and not directly behind them and the rocks came into your lane, to prevent tailgating and not maintaining proper distance defense. a pic of an uncovered truck helps too. also make sure to say the rock fell from the truck and was not kicked up off the ground, a rock being kicked up is not their fault, a rock falling off their truck is.

A rock that is kicked up off the road by a truck without proper mud flaps is the truck drivers responsiblity.
That’s another reason mudflaps have “anti-sail” properties too, so they won’t be flinging up in the wind when the trucks in motion. A truck driver must take resonable actions to secure his load and keep his truck safe.
