Remote Entry

October 7th, 2005 by Barry Freed · No Comments

What good is keyless entry for a car when you have to have the door open?

Keys

I can’t understand this. I have this little door opener remote for the Buick. It doesn’t work so well. Once in a while it works fine, but most times I stand outside the car constantly pushing the button to try to get in.

I realize it’s me being lazy. And I also realize that I might as well use the key since I’m standing next to the door anyway. But I have it, so I want it to work. I’ve even changed the batteries, but that doesn’t help at all. When I’m getting out of the car, I can hit the lock button a hundred times, and nothing happens. When I open the door and hit the lock button, it works.

I don’t get it.

Last week I joined a dart team for the first time in about three years. The last time I played was when I lived in Mission Hill, and we had a team at Pat Flanagan’s (which is now out of business). My friend Evan works at the Charles Playhouse lounge and their team is weak at best. I’m not talking about the skill of their players, but instead, the quantity. It’s midway through the season and they haven’t won a game because usually only 2 people show up.

Last week was my first time playing in a long time, and I was throwing rocks. I was just dead on. I won my one-on-one game (best 2 out of 3) really easily.

Last night didn’t go exactly that way. I stunk. Absolutely awful. I had to meet our “team captain” at the DAV in Somerville. For the uninitiated, DAV means Disabled American Veterans. All old guys were there and beers were $2. It was cool.

I couldn’t do anything right. My teammate was playing really well, but not well enough to carry the team on his back. And when I played one-on-one, I couldn’t even double in for a very long time. In fact, when I finally doubled in, my opponent won the game on the next dart.

Absolutely embarassing.
