We have a cheap coffee table. It’s one of those all-assembly-required deals that you get for $30 at Kmart. And it’s taken a lot of abuse. Right now, the table looks like a parallelogram.
The little wooden pegs are just not up to the job anymore. The table sways back and forth with any weight, and we’re just waiting for it to fall apart.
On Saturday, I decided to start my Christmas shopping and made the mistake of going north on Route One. I found out later that there was a water main break, but when I was in bumper-to-bumper traffic, I thought it was just a really popular shopping day. It took me over an hour to go approximately one mile.
While I was sitting there, I somehow remembered our coffee table, and it became my mission to buy a new one. When I give myself a mission, I forget about everything else. I looked to the other side of the road and saw a beacon of furniture choice: Bernie and Phyl’s.
If you don’t live in Boston, you probably haven’t heard of Bernie and Phyl. They are our local furniture celebrities. Every city has them. They do their own commercials with wacky premises. You know what I mean.
Anyway, I am pretty cheap when it comes to furniture. I can’t think of anything in my apartment that I’ve paid more than $75 for. But since we use the coffee table to eat on, I finally decided to get something nice.

I hate to admit it, but I am excited over a coffee table. I can’t understand it at all.

You wouldn’t be referring to that coffee table we put together, like, 7 years ago, would you????
If it is, holy shit, way to exceed any expectations I ever had in terms of how long it would last.
Congrats on getting yourself some new furniture kiddo.
