Birthday Blogging

by Barry Freed on March 16, 2006

Well, I’m a year older today.

Yesterday Kristina had the day off. When she came to pick me up at Malden Center station, she had the dog with her, and I couldn’t help noticing that he had blue paint on his face, stomach, and butt.

I immediately thought “Oh no. Kristina painted the room blue.”

Then I figured it out.

I used to hate it when people became so obsessed with their pets that they called them their “children.” It really can get disgusting. But when you have as many animals as we do, it is inevitable that you’ll turn into a crazed person. So at times, when joking around, Kristina and I will refer to the pets as “the kids.” I know, I know.

When she dropped me off in the morning, Kristina mentioned that she was going to take the kids shopping for my birthday present. I laughed, imagining a dog, rabbit, and cat walking through the mall looking for a present for me.

Flash forward to our apartment last night.

This is what “the kids” gave me for my birthday:

Birthday present

Kristina actually put paint on each of the animal’s paws and had them walk on a canvas. She used a different color for each pet.

I think it is the greatest, funniest birthday present I’ve ever received. It’s just awesome.
