I am a sappy dude.
It’s true.
I’ve been reading a lot lately about the law of attraction and the idea that when you visualize your goals, you’re much more likely to reach them. And immediately, the skeptic in me says “yeah, sure. this is just marketing fluff.” But at the same time, the logic in me says that if you can picture what you want, you’re more likely to achieve what you’re shooting for. I mean, if you don’t know what you want, how do you know when you’re there?
So, in a complete blind leap of faith, I decided to try one of the things I’ve read. The idea is that if you take the perspective of already having what you want, you can then tell yourself that you’re grateful for those things you have….even though you don’t have them
yet.
The idea is to write a list of “I’m grateful for…” that includes all the things you dream of having in your life. That way, your perspective shifts, and you’re now picturing yourself in your ideal life.
Without any further goading, I implore you, reader of this humble blog, to post your own “I am grateful for” note from a few years in the future. It’s really hard to do. But lets see what happens when you try. There’s really nothing to lose but inhibitions.
Here’s mine:
I am grateful for my family, my career, financial stabilty, and my life.
I am so grateful for my wonderful, beautiful wife, who is understanding, inspirational, caring, and motivates me every day.
I am grateful for my children who constantly amaze me and make me want to be the kind of person they can look up to and respect with everything I do.
I am grateful for my career that allows me to be challenged every day, and allows me to balance my time between what I do for a living and have time with my family to do the things that are important in life.
Every day when I step into my Porsche, I still grin ear-to-ear thinking how lucky I am to be able to have such an amazing life and still be able to have a car that makes me laugh like a little kid when I turn the key.
When a bill comes in the mail and I don’t have to worry about post-dating a check, I realize that I am so lucky that I don’t have to weigh whether to fall behind with bills or buy dinner. I realize that I am truly one of the luckiest people on the planet.
I am so grateful for everything I have and know that there are so many people that are not as fortunate as I am.
And rather than being satisfied with what I have, I am grateful to have the foresight to know that without giving back, I am wasting the blessings that I have been given in my life.
So, what are you grateful for?

I warned you that I’m a sappy dude. This is a really tough thing to do. It really puts you out there, but if it’s something you believe in, putting it in writing makes it real. And it makes it tougher to back out of.

OK- I’ll have to get back to this, but I do have to say I smiled at the Porsche comment…

I don’t know why, and I’ve never been a car guy at all. But there’s just something about Porsches that I really like. I like the sound too.
