What Would Make You Stop Blogging?

November 28th, 2006 by Barry Freed · 4 Comments

I’ve recently thought about ending this blog. I’m not saying that I’m going to, or that I’m going to continue with it. But I’m wondering: if you’re a blogger, what would it take for you to stop blogging?

I’ve gone through long periods where I don’t post, but have never taken the site down. Hmm, it’s a tough call. I guess you stop when it’s no longer doing anything for you (I need to learn to articulate this thought). You Blog because it fulfills you in some way - through others or yourself. Others, meaning feedback through comments. Yourself, the process of expressing your thoughts, getting it off your chest. A Blogger has to decide why they are writing and if they are accomplishing their personal goal.

I would stop only if a) I had nothing interesting to say and b) I had no access to the Internet. I wouldn’t, however, stop writing.

Hey Nathan. My first instinct when I read this post was to say I would stop blogging if something huge happened in my life, like a big career change, getting married, having a baby, etc. But then, I reconsidered. I’ve loved how the blog has been an ongoing chronicle of my life this past year. Why wouldn’t I want to continue that chronicle for other important events?
