Comments can be a great thing on a blog.
Months ago I wrote a post about the song “Homegirl You’re Wicked Awesome,” which I’d heard at Jake Ivory’s. I couldn’t find the lyrics anywhere, nor could I find an mp3 of the song. No matter where I searched, I came up empty handed.
Until very recently. Here’s a comment I got:
- Steph’s Gus:Hey - this is very funny as I was just telling a friend here at work about a song called “Homegirl you’re wicked awesome†that is played by some dude at Jake Ivory’s. He didn’t write it but I’m actually good friends with the guy who did. I googled the song to see if my buddy is being credited and the first hit I got was Tell Him Fred, which of course I recognized. Knowing the author, I’ll contact him immediately for the lyrics and post them back when I get them.
Then:
Hey.
I spoke with Steph’s Gus (former co-worker) and he pointed me at this blog entry. A friend of mine and I wrote Home Girl You’re Wicked Awesome in 1996 at our summer camp when we were counselors. Another counselor at the camp that summer learned the song and eventually went to work at Jake Ivory’s and started playing it there (without asking our permission - not that I’m sour 10 years later). From what I’ve heard, its still a big hit there and gets requested a lot. I’m glad everyone likes it so much.
Its not likely that you’ll find an mp3 anywhere (at least not created by myself or the co-writer). We once talked about recording it…maybe some day.
Here is the original chorus which I also hear has been changed at Jake Ivory’s a bit to be more ‘R’ rated. We always looked at this song as a love ballad.
Enjoy…
[ With thick Boston accent ]
Home Girl, You’re Wicked Awesome,
You know I wanna, take you to Roller World.
Hey Girl, you got 50 bucks?
We could go watch the Monster Trucks.I like the way, you do your hair.
You spray your bangs, way up in the air.
You like to shop, at the Chess King.
Don’t you know, that you’re the best thing…’cause…[ Chorus ]
I saw you there, at Revere Beach.
You got a style, far from my reach.
You like to eat, some darn good chowder.
Let’s go to the Revere theater, and watch Austin Powers…’cause…[ Chorus ]
You like to eat, at Kelly’s Seafood.
Lobster rolls, put me in a good mood.
Would you mind, if I borrowed your Pert.
I’d love to wear, your I.O.U. sweatshirt…’cause…[ Chorus x 2 ]
-Matt
So, mystery solved. And the lyrics are now available for the world to see.

So, I too have been on a quest to find the lyrics to that song ever since I heard it at Jake Ivorys six years ago. I loved it. Thanks for posting and thanks for the memories.

I have also been searching for lyrics/mp3 of this song since I moved from Boston to DC. I was very excited to relive some good memories. I have passed this along to several friends who have also moved from Boston. I am still hopeful of finding an mp3 out there someday.

[...] AquaNet. Some might not consider that a bad thing, especially if you are wicked awesome homegirl (lyrics: video - you won’t be disappointed), but it’s not going to work for [...]
