Splurge and Cut

January 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Splurge. What a weird sounding and looking word.

On Tuesday night I was at home looking at my darts. They were in a sad state. After being thrown into walls, wooden cabinets, and hard floors, the tips were completely shot to hell.

I remembered that I’d seen a little dart store down the street, so I decided to go. And I was like a kid in a toy store.

After buying the replacement tips I needed, I started talking to the owner about what darts would be best for the way I throw. It was then that he showed me the set of darts that would be clouding my thoughts for the next two full days.

I took those darts in my hand and he invited me to throw them at his practice board. They just felt right. I threw them and did something I’ve never done in my entire career as an amateur dart player (like that use of “career”?): I hit three corks. Three.

I didn’t have the cash on me to buy the darts, so I took the replacement tips home knowing that I’d be back for those beautiful pieces of steel.

On Wednesday, I had a work happy hour, and played darts afterwards with co-workers. While I was throwing I couldn’t help but think of how inferior my darts were. I really wanted to get out of there and just buy them, but the store was miles away from work, and closed at 7pm.

Yesterday after work, I went to get a haircut. I have a piece of advice: when you go to SuperCuts and they ask you what you want done with your sideburns, do not answer “Whatever you think.” You may end up like me:

It’s hard to tell from the picture, but theres about a one inch space between where my sideburns are supposed to begin and where my hair was cut. That was my fault.

So after that, I drove home and was sitting on the couch by 6ish. I just kept thinking about those darts. I couldn’t get them out of my head.

So at 6:30 I got in the car and went to the dart store. And I bought them. I have absolutely zero buyer’s remorse. And when I leave work today, I will be going directly to Trinity to play with my new toys.

Life is excellent. Especially when you’re as easily amused as I am.

Here they are in all their glory:

I’m glad I was able to help you decide to spend your money. I’ve always been good for that :)
