Frustrated

February 8th, 2007 · 5 Comments

What do you to when you’re really frustrated and do not have the luxury of being able to scream, punch a wall, etc.?

Lets say you’re in a work type situation and something or someone is really making you angry.  You are at your breaking point, but the social norms of the setting do not allow you to throw a chair at someone. What do you do or say to yourself to calm down?

you shake yer fist (or maybe both!?!) and mutter things under your breath. or walk into a bathroom stall and cry. crying always seems to make me feel better. or call up a pretty girl and have her whisper sweet nothings to you while you sit at your desk with a smile on your face.

Screaming in the car. I love it, and people are afraid of me.

I usually throw a book across the room. Or punch the person sitting next to me.

You guys don’t get to do that?

it depends on the situation, but invariably, i recommend a stiff drink. especially at lunch on the day of the incident or the day it all comes to a head and you simply can’t take it anymore. then, leave early. the next day, if the situation persists (and it most likely will), have a discussion with either the person (presumably it’s a person causing this frustration) you’re pissed with or ask for advice in dealing with the situation from a mentor.

in the end, it is never helpful to scream or throw things. i’m not suggesting that you internalize, you simply need to find the appropriate means of intelligently solving the problem.
