I’m not one to criticize the T a lot. I’m not- I swear.
But this morning I saw a great example of “just warn- don’t fix.”
I got on the T at my usual stop and it was INCREDIBLY slippery. It was unbelivable, and people were slipping everywhere. But since I get on at the last stop, there was a seat, so I didn’t have to worry about falling once I got on the train.
Two stops later, people were sliding everywhere just trying to get on the train. Then one woman fell….HARD. It looked really painful. The woman next to her helped her up, and after brushing off, she got on the train and sat down. Two stops later, MBTA police came onto the train and made sure she was okay. When she said she was fine, the T police told the conductor to warn people it was slippery on all the platforms and on the train.
Rather than trying to do anything about the conditions, they decided to just warn people.
Now, I realize there’s not much you can do about the floor inside the train. But the woman fell because there was ice on the platform. Not water…..ice.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please watch your step when boarding the T. It’s icy and slippery. And we’re not going to do anything about it.”
