Dry Cleaning- A Source of Joy

November 3rd, 2007 · 3 Comments

A few weeks ago I was introduced to the incredible service that is called “Dry Cleaning”. I’m not sure about the underlying science or top secret process involved, but I do know this: the results are wonderful.

Being the kind of guy that is not afraid to rock the button-up 7 days a week, I have always had a problem with washing and drying my shirts without having them look like I just pulled them out of the hamper. No amount of ironing seems to correct the issue.

I realize that dry cleaning has been around for quite some time, and I’m not exactly sharing breaking news with you, the reading public. Instead, I’m more interested in the fact that for whatever reason, I’m truly excited about having my shirts dry cleaned. Why should such a benign act produce such a level of childhood wonderment in me?

Which makes me ask the question: Does this mean I’m a grown-up now?

Surely there are other examples of things like dry cleaning that would never be so exciting at any other time in life. Are there things that you’ve recently either discovered or simply started doing that elicit such joy in you? Something that, if you were to travel back in time to talk to yourself in the past, your past self would never understand your current self’s excitement?

I need examples, folks. I believe that this signifies something much more meaningful, and I’m terrified to understand what that is.

    1) you really did phone that one in, huh?

    2) you’ll never officially be an adult, nor will I. We’ll be sitting around drinking beers in our 80s, thinking of how to eff with the ‘old timers’ in the Shady Oaks lounge.

Seriously, you just discovered dry cleaning? That’s cute. Have you also discovered that the laundry/dry cleaning places will take your pile of dirty laundry and wash it and fold it for you? I discovered this lazy-enabling service when I lived in a 4th floor walk-up apartment in Brighton with no real access to washers/dryers (only hassle was dragging the bag of clothes to the car)…it’s really nice to have laundry access right in my apartment now!

I am pretty sure it’s “Shady Acres”…and I’ll be there too.
