As the quote goes:
“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” No, I don’t know where it comes from, and yeah, I should. I know it because I’ve watched some of the worst movies ever, including Hackers. Ugh, what a horrible movie. Anyway, it occurred to me that, unlike most of the people I know, I haven’t changed much since I was a kid. Sure, my tastes have matured, but I never really put away childish things. Let’s think about this, shall we?
When I was 13, one of my favorite things was…the Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Mmmm.
But when was the last time you had one of these? Unfortunately for me the answer was a week and a half go, drunk off my ass wandering around like a lunatic in Boston. But that’s not my point. My point is that these days, the QP has morphed into this:
Likewise, I’ve gone from wanting one of these:
To one (or more) of these:
When we were young, we’d all get together and play video games.
(NOTE: this is NOT us)
We would get together as kids and do irresponsible things all the time, whatever we could get away with.

And…well…let’s face it - that has never changed. Not once. Probably never will.

I SO wanted one of these when I was a kid:
Now I want one of THESE!
(yes, this exists.)
I have not grown up appreciably. The friends I have have not grown up appreciably. The women we date all appreciate that fact, and at the very least, are tolerant of it. I don’t plan to grow up much more. I hope the world is ready for a bunch of 50-year old dads getting together to put on their VR sets and play Madden 2028.
So I’ve had a few Chardonnays, what of it?

Yes, our significant others are quite tolerant of this. Maybe they even get a kick out of the fact that we’re not all stuffy and don’t take ourselves (or each other) too seriously.
Nice post.
