The Radio Wars Continue

May 9th, 2006 · 2 Comments

I’ve been a bum lately in that I haven’t updated this blog since April 25th, prior to going to Montreal for a week. Of course, while I was there, I had my trusty XM portable radio, so I was able to listen to O&A while I was in the hotel room.
Well, it looks like [...]

Opie and Anthony Coming to CBS

April 24th, 2006 · No Comments

Well folks, it’s official. Roth is gone, and O&A are coming to CBS.
They will begin broadcasting on CBS and XM simultaneously starting on Wednesday, April 26th.
This morning, I turned on WBCN to see what they were broadcasting. What I heard was something very, very strange: it sounded like a 13-minute intro to the Opie and [...]

Opie and Anthony to Replace David Lee Roth

April 20th, 2006 · No Comments

Wow!
It appears that one of my predictions is actually coming true. After speculating that Opie and Anthony were going to replace David Lee Roth one way or another, it seems that the best case scenario is coming true.
Rather than leaving XM satellite radio, the show will be rebroadcast on CBS stations in Roth’s markets.
I [...]

O&A At Bill’s Bar

April 18th, 2006 · No Comments

Yesterday was Patriot’s Day here in Massachusetts, so Kristina and I had the day off. Opie and Anthony were broadcasting from Bill’s Bar, so we got up early and went to see the live broadcast.
Live broadcasts can be very difficult. Especially when it is an 8:00 am broadcast from a small bar filled with drunks. [...]

Roth is still there.

March 31st, 2006 · No Comments

Well, I was wrong.
It’s not the first time and it certainly won’t be the last.
A while back I thought that CBS Radio might have canned David Lee Roth when he went on a vaction. It was just a weird timing issue since it was right around the time that Roth’s dismal ratings came out. [...]

The End of David Lee Roth?

February 28th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Yesterday there was a Radio and Records report entitled “R&R News Analysis: Stern-Free CBS Stations See Steep Listener Losses.” The article goes on to say that the stations that used to have Howard Stern are losing listeners at an incredible pace.
According to Cornerstone Research, the station then known as K-Rock earned a 3.2 share [...]

Satellite Radio Politics

February 24th, 2006 · No Comments

One thing I’ve noticed lately is that satellite radio customers are like members of a political party: they’re loyal, and are happy to argue over why their company is better than the other company, and why the other company stinks.
In satellite radio, there are only two horses in the race: XM and Sirius. And since [...]

XM vs. Sirius Portable Players

February 1st, 2006 · No Comments

I am absolutely biased. There’s no doubt there. I love XM.
On Howard Stern’s show, a caller was complaining that he hates that he can’t listen to Sirius between his car and work, and he can’t listen at work. Howard then recommended the S50.
Only one problem: the S50 cannot play live satellite content. But you [...]
